_welcome

In 2000, shortly after the launch of the first Museum in the Streets in Pontlevoy, France, Patrick Cardon teamed up with the Pays des Châteaux to create a vast network of panels around château country in the Loire Valley. The panels included maps for cyclists and suggested itineraries and stops. Patrick Cardon, working with the individual villages and local archivists, provided the historical content and collaborated with towns along the routes to add photographs from their collections and museums to the panels.

Many of the towns on the circuit already have a Museum in the Streets of their own, offering a more in-depth and informed visit to the people who cycle through them and stop to read about what they are seeing. Other towns are now considering adding new installations.

Les Châteaux à Vélo has been a very successful project drawing together communities across a region into a common and collaborative venture.
